UNAM develops own “software” for management of industrial robots – Notimex (subscription)

Mexico, December 24 (EFE) .- UNAM researchers developed a technological package to integrate robots measuring genre in that it includes coordinate measuring machines and articulated arms assets or liabilities mainly released José Vizcaíno Sánchez, manager of the group.

In a statement, explained that this is intended to reduce costs of hardware and software for industrial, clinical and artistic addition to motivate and convince students that the development is possible and appropriate own instrumentation.

He said the academic group for Precision Engineering and Metrology belongs to the Department of Instrumentation and Measurement Center for Applied Research and Technological Development (CCADET) UNAM Sciences.

The project was developed with funds from the Institute of Science and Technology of the Federal District, today secretariat to develop interfaces (interface) measurement with interest in the fields of metal-mechanical energy conversion, transport, medical and artistic.

He mentioned that the interfaces developed hardware and software complement, extend or replace commercial equivalents. It is automated, manual and interactive process operations industrial or interest for a wide geometric spectrum of sizes, positions and shapes.

“For all cases of geometry processing transferable results are generated CAD (computer-aided design), which provides security processing and facilitates the analysis, “stated the expert.

In the market there are packages ranging from 60,000 and $ 100,000, and its licenses and Updates vary between eight and twenty thousand dollars a year; also often have restrictions for users to develop their own applications or include new algorithms, mathematical functions or commands, said.

Therefore, and since the CCADET has the intellectual capacity of scientists and engineers training, they were given the task of developing their own. Thus, now have a hardware interface, remote control, and user interface, which bind to measuring machines with up to four movements or degrees of freedom.

There is a history of development of physical machines Instrument Center of UNAM -today CCADET- in 1988, with which human bones were digitized.

There are currently inexpensive that allows developing machines to measure, articulated arms and robots available mechanical and electronic technology, so this technological subsystem is considered totally approachable on projects that required it.

Emerging technologies in this field are scanners, laser-trackers and measurement by image processing, among others, it is estimated that the issue is not exhausted and is an opportunity for the development of Mexican engineering.
