Lytro software updates to enter ‘Focus Spread’ – Engadget Photo (blog)

The Lytro software, Lytro DeskTop 4.1 is updated to enter ‘Focus Spread’, a new feature that goes a step further in controlling the depth of field. But what is the ¿Focus Spread?

optical , particularly in everything related to photography, depth of field is the distance within a scene between the closest and the most distant object that have an acceptable sharpness.

With this in mind, and knowing that the software could refocus the Lytro camera pictures correcting the “focal point” Lytro Desktop 4.1 offers some new features and very useful to users of the Lytro Illum, including the aforementioned Focus Spread, allowing now define the start and end points of the depth of field. The above video illustrates the capabilities of this differential approach.

So, the display of Focus Spread , cyan, orange, white and shaded areas represent the foreground, theme or motif, and the bottom, respectively. Moving the cyan and orange indicators we can define these areas. The ‘dropper’ can also be used to define the boundaries of the front and back of the depth of field by clicking directly on the image. Meanwhile, the foreground and background are blurred
