What software architecture should I use? – Platform Architecture

One of the most important decisions you must make when you set as architect-and that as independent architect or start your own office- is that software you use. can be tempting to just pick one of the leading products in the industry, but you can end up paying more than necessary for a product that does not fit into your work style. In this post, originally published in ArchSmarter as “Which architectural software is right for me? ” Michael Kilkelly reviews the factors that should influence your d ecision, either if you are taking for the first time or reviewing a choice made long ago.

What CAD or BIM software should I use? Well, that depends. What functionality do you need? What are your priorities in terms of cost? Are you using a Mac or a PC?

Choose what software you use can be a complicated process. There are many options and the marketing of these products does not always help to understand all the options. In addition, the software is an expensive tool that is essential to your job. You need a suitable tool, but also do not want to overspend on features you will not use.

I made the above flow chart to help you select the best software based on several criteria. The above criteria are based solely on my opinion, either by using the software or through my own research. I have included a list of all applications and their websites below. If I forgot any program, please let me know in the comments in ArchSmarter so I can update the flowchart.
