Alcatel-Lucent and KPN sign agreement for software – CIOAL

A five-year agreement to provide a new communications software Rapport signed Alcatel Lucent and Dutch operator KPN, which would allow the latter to simplify and consolidate various voice services

The Rapport software communications will play a key role in the ability of KPN to create and deliver new applications and services to any device, based on integrated APIs. Moreover, KPN Rapport use the Alcatel-Lucent to provide their residential and business customers with voice communications and rich, regardless of the device used, or whether they are in an environment of fixed or mobile network .

KPN is the leading provider of ICT services and telecommunications in the Netherlands, offering wireline and wireless telephony, internet and TV to residential users and ICT services and telecommunications end to-end enterprise customers . In Belgium, KPN’s mobile network operator and holds the third position in the market through the company Base Company. KPN provides wholesale network services to third parties and operates an efficient IP-based infrastructure with global scale in international wholesale through iBasis company.

Rapport is based on a software version of IMS ( IP Multimedia Subsystem) Alcatel-Lucent with a completely redesigned architecture, the award winning Voice over LTE (VoLTE) from this company. Includes APIs for adding new web communications services to the rich functionality of the All IP network of KPN.

Alcatel-Lucent has more than 69 commercial deployments of IMS customers around the world. IMS is the core of communications IP next generation networks, including LTE and VoLTE.

Andre Beijen, Development Manager Networks and Services KPN is of the opinion that this agreement is a significant step for KPN, “as it will consolidate some of their voice (eg, rationalization of Voice over IP – VoIP) and introduce new services (eg VoLTE) for our customers spread throughout the Netherlands “

Meanwhile, Willem Hendrickx, President. Alcatel-Lucent’s Europe, Middle East and Africa says that “Rapport Alcatel-Lucent facilitates the convergence of fixed and mobile networks of KPN, and lets you add services and communications capabilities and web applications, facilitating Availability for any device, anywhere and anytime. “
