Well, today I have decided accept challenge and came briefly platicarles me what has worked for me. This list includes most of the tools that I have installed and that, basically, are what I use every day to write the texts published here . I hope you enjoy reading and that one of them can really help.

OS

Software for working

My desktop wallpaper courtesy of Thomas

I a dell laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate installed, although the operating system I use most is currently Elementary OS in the “Luna” version. Depending on the task you need to perform or application need to try it as I go moving between Windows and Linux. The truth is that ever I adapted well to change to Windows 8 and due to the problems faced by the portable partner with that OS I decided it was not a good idea to update.

Spending most of the time was working from a laptop is not an easy thing and what I buy the desktop computer I want, I decided it was a good idea to me wireless keyboard and mouse . I have a iPod Touch 4th generation with iOS 6.1.6 and tablet with Android Jelly Bean that work well for almost anything, especially when I have to work from another location .

Browser

Software for working

Despite the benefits of Firefox, my default web browser is Google Chrome . I have installed both and use them for specific things, however I have saved my precious Chrome bookmarks and all browsing history. When I have to work on another computer, well I can log on and Chrome as if working from the comfort of my home, plus I have to create additional accounts to sync all my settings.

My Chrome has Extensions to help me work more efficiently. Some of them are:

  • Checker Plus for Gmail notifying me every time I have a new email and lets me answer them directly without opening a new tab in the browser.
  • Google Translator helps me translate entire web pages or specific words by simply selecting the text.
  • Hello , a service Free Proxy and VPN that allows you to skip some restrictions for blocked content in your country.
  • Notifier for Twitter to show tweets, DM’s and mentions instantly on the computer desktop, even if I do not open the Twitter page.
  • options Tab showing me a nice picture every time I open a new tab in Chrome.

Text Editors

 Software for working

Remarkable helping me write this post

When working from laptop I often use Remarkable and text editor in Linux because it supports markdown and has a very simple and intuitive interface. It’s free and features Live Preview in a second panel to preview the changes to be doing.

When I’m on the tablet I use Writeily Pro , which like Remarkable supports markdown and has design Material Design.

Image Editors

 Software for working

Gimp working

usually I usually prefer the free and open source tools . When I need to edit a picture or make a mockup I do not need sophisticated programs like Photoshop or Illustrator with Gimp is enough for me to realize what my job requires me.

Occasionally also use PicMonkey , online image editor which has interesting features and allows you to edit, retouch, design or make fun collages.

Music

 Software for working

Listening to music from Grooveshark from Nuvola Player

Who does not like music? I think the answer is everyone. And when I want to do I just need to open my Nuvola Player and start enjoying the best music. My favorite service to use is Grooveshark , because with it I can hear all the music you want uncut and commercial. Your web version also has a renewed and beautiful design. Some of my favorite transmissions that help me concentrate and work are better Work Study / Smoke and Instrumental Chill FM.

In Youtube can also listen to good music and it can install Streamus , an extension for Chrome that allows you to search, listen and create playlists from Youtube

Messaging

 Software for working

The team Hypertext keeps in touch thanks to Slack is a program through which we share the most relevant news, organized content and occasionally used to share a little more personal interests.

communication with the rest of the world use Telegram , IM client secure and robust . Its interface is very clean and has desktop client. Honestly I prefer well above Whatsapp.

Software industry gaining ground in the Valle del Cauca – El Pais – Cali Colombia (press release) (registration)

80% of software exports were made in the audiovisual field (film, TV, animation), 15% in video games and the remaining 5% in applications.
Archive El País.

The smile it away. Best Technologies, a company that develops Cali software is about to take a big leap. That is happy to Luis Guillermo Pachon, founding partner of the company, who believes that the software industry in the Valley and the country is going through a good time.

His experience allows him to believe that the region conscientizaron entrepreneurs to make high quality developments, to certify the software and do things with international standards and “that triggers any business, “he says.

Best Technologies born in Parquesoft, an organization that now has 55 technology companies of different sizes and, according to Luis Guillermo Pachon, being in the park has been key to developments faster.

The start of this company was not in production but marketing software biometric solutions, but in 2006 he was measured to design a proposal itself and out came “Welcome,” a software that helps manage processes in goal and can also act as a complement to systems access control and other security systems in organizations. Today, this solution has had multiple evolutions in organizations like The Office, Congress, mayors and many companies in the country.

But now the company will give a big jump from the hand of a multinational that after a year of negotiations shall integrate “Welcome” to its portfolio and placed initially in Latin America. “The deal will be signed soon, it is a company with presence in many countries worldwide and more than 20,000 employees. If before we sold 10 monthly licenses is now possible to move to 100 licenses, “says the founder of Best Technologies very proud of what has been achieved in just over a decade.

In Valle del Cauca there is a characterization of the software industry, but the success stories are increasing every day. In the region leading vendors like Open System, Carvajal Technology, Siesa, Compunet, which are now recognized internationally and now are part of the Cluster Information Technology Pacifitic that seeks to strengthen the sector working on several strategies emerged: Search resource for SMEs to grow, support between small and large firms and the development of a plan of internationalization, among others.

“We know that international competition is strong, but we believe that if we are united we have the way to find strategies to grow, now the government has been supporting companies to qualify their knowledge and work on the basis of quality, “said Maria Elena Suarez, director of Pacifitic.

It is estimated that the number of software companies operating in the Valle del Cauca reached 200, not counting with daily ventures in the sector. Only Pacifitic cluster brings together some 80 companies.

In Colombia the jump has also been important. According to the Ministry of Information Technology (Mintic), there are 4016 companies in this sector (the vast majority of Bogotá, Cali and Medellín).

On this advance, Albeiro Cuesta, director of Policy and Development Information Technology Ministry, said that for the first time in the country this industry has real support from the state and that is reflected in the results of organizations.

Government figures indicate that in 2010 this sector sold $ 2.6 billion in 2013 to $ 5.9 trillion were reached and last year amounted to $ 7.5 billion, of which 8% are exports. “The goal now is to triple sales by 2018, double the number of companies and especially the certified and triple the number of jobs is 41,000 today,” said Cuesta.

What is required?

  • According to scholars of the region, specialized education is a determining factor in differentiating software artisan markets, industrial.
  • So say many professionals, specialists, magisters and doctors in the field of Information Technology are needed.
  • Fedesoft has trained more than 3,000 professionals in development methodologies necessary to ensure product quality.
  • Software companies of the country reach non-traditional markets such as Germany, South Africa, UK, according Fedesoft.

Another great leap

Alejandra Ordóñez is the manager Tactics and Strategy, Cali firm with 11 years in the market that began with the production of software that measures the impact of communication in business. Today, says the executive, the organization is member of the Association of Corporate Communication Measurement (AMEC) and is the only company in the country specializing in their field.

The evolution of business has led to have several developments

software, but now offer more service involving the use of their programs. “We are in big companies because they are the ones with more structured communication strategies, 90% of customers are in Antioquia, so last year took a big leap with the opening of an office in Medellin allowing us greater growth, yet we demand investment, “he says.

Tactics and Strategy (TYE) has been growing at an annual rate of 40% in sales and now in addition to his three classic products are developing several applications with the goal of having 2 releases per year. “Companies are evolving because the market has also done and now believe more because they see the usefulness of the product”

To Beatriz Eugenia Grass, Program Director of Systems Engineering at the University San Buenaventura, Valle has made significant progress because they have created technology clusters, technology parks and state initiatives have been launched to promote the growth of the information technology sector (IT). “We are the sixth department with the highest Internet penetration, which has boosted the sector and the interesting thing is that there is support for persos actors.”

Ensures the teaching that “we are on the right track and we believe in local talent. The software products we develop competing in any dimension with any other country. ”

The University San Buenaventura de Cali has a technology park that have left companies like OLsoftware doing custom development of clients and they have provided services to companies such as La 14, Comfandi, Coomeva, Money and Finance, among others.

In addition, some employers have taken advantage of the support of the Government. For example, firms such as IP caleñas Total Software and Consulting Optimum participated in February technology conference in Barcelona with accompanying Mintic and Procolombia. Both organizations reported good results because they closed deals to expand in Latin America and Europe.

Paola Restrepo, president of Fedesoft, believes that one of the strengths of the Valley is the association, which has impacted not only the image people have of the companies, but their business models. “The Valley has companies that are major players in the industry, one of which is already part of one quadrant of Gartner (A US consulting which includes among its customers only large firms) and another has become the multilatina of our country, “he said.

With this background it is expected that more companies make the leap towards consolidation.

During the last four months, six units of Army Special Operations that are about to be deployed in Afghanistan, Iraq and other hostile environments have requested intelligence software manufactured by Palantir, a company in Silicon Valley that has synthesized information to the CIA, special operations force of the Navy and the largest banks country, inter-governmental and private entities.

But only two of the applications have been approved, both by the Army after members of Congress intervened with senior military leaders. Four other requests made through the Special Operations Command US Army at Fort Bragg, NC, have not been granted. The Army says its policy is to grant all requests for Palantir, while special operations officers said they are working requests case by case.

Emails and other miliary records obtained by The Associated Press show that officers of the Army and Special Operations Command have been pushing troops to use a system internally developed, built and maintained by traditional defense contractors. “You literally have these old tired (bureaucrats) preventing the combatant in war for what you know works, “said Republican Representative Duncan Hunter, a combat veteran and member of the Armed Services Committee who wants to cut funding for the DCGS. “This is amazing.”

Another member of the commission, Democrat Jackie Speier said in a statement that the DCGS systems built for both the Army and for special operations troops, have failed the fighter and taxpayers. … It’s a shame that the Army did not provide the troops technology that works and is less expensive when lives are in the balance. “

Warn of pre-installed software on new computers … – Telam

“From these limitations checked at boot computers would be very negative for the freedom and safety of users”, said in dialogue with Telam regulation technology expert and researcher of CONICET Ariel Vercelli, who stressed the “importance” of topic.

During the presentation of the new Windows 10 in the Chinese city of Shenzhen, the US software giant announced last arrival of Secure Boot, which he described as “a security standard developed by industry members the week PCs to help ensure that your computer boots using only the software that is considered trusted by the manufacturer. “

In other words, the program is to prevent people who acquire a computer with the new version of Windows can install an alternative operating system like Ubuntu or Huayra among others, conviertiéndolas a sort of hostage Microsoft operating system.

While the presentation in China the US multinational said to be computer manufacturers who must make the decision to allow people off or not the Secure Boot, Telam tried corrobar this information Microsoft but had no answer.

“It might be a good opportunity for that in Argentina a specific public regulation is developed, agreed with the manufacturers of residing computers in the country, which allows users to decide better what operating system they want to use, “said Vercelli, adding a provision to that effect” would give more and no less rights to computer buyers. “

” Something similar should happen with mobile phones has produced and marketed in the country “because” these new standards would also be a strong incentive to strengthen national and regional computer industry, “he added.

Meanwhile, the software developer Álvaro Soliverez Telam said that Microsoft “now, citing security as a reason, attempts to block other operating systems without certification. That is, the creators of the operating system with the worst safety record even suspected of selling these vulnerabilities, try to be the ones who define what is safe and what is not. “

The programmer compared the purchase of a computer Secure Boot enabled with a DVD player that accepts only “films some film company that can not reproduce or local cinema or DVD I built I filmed with my phone or any other”.

“As a developer and user of free software is a play that does not surprise me. This ought to be the subject of agencies competition worldwide, but the legal process takes years, too late, “he said.

” For purely commercial ambitions, Microsoft would be holding back innovation represents Huayra and other free software projects. In short, for the country is a matter of technological sovereignty, and as the main buyer of technology the government should look at this issue with concern, “he said, referring to the operating system developed in the country for computers that delivers the bar program Connect Equality.

The KDVeV member of the organization explained that this is not the first time that the corporation founded by Bill Gates tries to “prevent users from using other operating systems with Windows”, but “in this case, announces it openly. “

” We also implemented mechanisms to prevent other operating systems to run correctly on the same computer, such as Windows Vista, quietly changing the startup of the computer to remove the option to boot other operating systems, “he said.

” It would be unacceptable, and this case is the same. Exploit the issue is more technical and few people install your own operating system, but the freedoms that are at stake are the same, “he said.

The software pirate ?, an open door for criminals … – iprofesional.com

A new report commissioned by the BSA , a global alliance of software developers, confirms the link between unlicensed software and malicious code (“malware”) in personal computers.

The analysis, conducted by global research firm IDC , found that the higher the rate of unlicensed software in a country, the greater the amount of malware in general Found on computers in the country.

The involvement of governments, companies and end users is clear: the elimination of unlicensed software on their networks could help reduce the risk of cyber security incidents

. Statistical analysis compared the rates of unlicensed software installed on computers in 81 countries, including the Argentina , a measure of detections of malware on computers tracked by Microsoft , BSA member company.

The research suggests that there is a strong positive correlation (r = 0.79) between the indices of unlicensed software and malware incidents.

A more detailed analysis indicates that the rate of unlicensed software in a country is a strong predictive index malware detections in the country. In Argentina, the encounter rate of malware is 25%.

The report is based on BSA main study that examines the global rates of use of unlicensed software.

In 2014, the Global Survey on Software BSA reported that 69% of software installed in Argentina during the previous year was not licensed, compared with 43% to worldwide.

We also found that the main reason given by users worldwide, not using unlicensed software is to avoid security threats due to malware.

Among the risks associated with unlicensed software, 64% of users worldwide cited unauthorized access by hackers as a major concern, and 59% cited loss of data access .

“The use of illegal software, results in the possible loss of computer data and suffer attack hackers. In research conducted, it concluded that organizations experience related incidents malware every three minutes, “said Montserrat Duran (pictured), Senior Director of Legal Affairs for Latin America BSA .

“malware problems relating to the software without a license, in 2014, had a cost to organizations about 500 billion,” said the executive, interviewed by iProfesional.

How is the indicator that relates unlicensed software in a country with the amount of malware in general found on computers that country?
-To analyze the connection between the illegal software and security threats, IDC indices analyzed using pirated software and threats to cybersecurity 81 countries where reliable data on both variables exist.

There is a clear upward trend: highest regard is the rate of pirated software in a country, the greater generally, the number of PC contaminated with malware in that country .

The statistical analysis confirms that the two sets of variables are strongly correlated with each other, meaning that rise or fall together.

The correlation coefficient in this case is 0.79 (1 represents perfect correlation and 0 means no correlation).

‘What data is based?
-The rates of illegal software come from the Global Survey software, a biennial IDC study conducted for BSA, and information on security threats cybernetic intelligence comes from the report on the safety of Microsoft that analyzes the activity of 600 million computers per month .

The metric chosen for this “white paper” was the incidence rate, which is the percentage of computers running Microsoft security software in real time and where malware was found in a quarter.

To get an idea, around 20% of worldwide PC claimed to have found malware in all quarters of 2013 .

How the research was conducted?
-The authors used a statistical technique called “regression analysis”, whereby the data sets are used to obtain a formula in which a variable (the index of pirated software used) can predict the other (the rate of PC infected with malware).

What were the results in the case of Argentina compared with Latin America?
-For the case of Argentina, the encounter rate of malware is 25%, ranking eighth in comparison to other countries of the region.

However, rate of unlicensed software in the country is 69%, one of the highest rates in the region .

What sectors are most prone to this type of situation? ¿SMEs, professionals, manufacturing, commerce, etc.?
‘All economic sectors should be aware of the negative impact of the use of illegal software in economic terms and performance for their institutions.

This analysis contains no separation of industries but overall, none “escapes” from negative associated with the presence of malware on unlicensed software.

What steps companies have to comply with this situation and regularize the use of proprietary software? For example, antivirus, reinstalling software, etc.
-BSA recommends that organizations implement internal controls, and practical asset management software to reduce exposure to cyber to ensure that all software installed on their systems count on such licenses threats.

BSA comes different examples and programs to implement this type of program through this page.

Proprietary software and press freedom – republica.com.uy

On February 18, 2015, a court ordered the raid as requisitioning computers of the weekly El Eco de Cologne, based on a complaint for violation of copyright made by the Anti-Piracy Software Association. This procedure was carried out a few days before a conciliation between the parties, set for early March.

This measure, which involved serious injury to press freedom and the right to work (to jeopardize the output of the weekly), under an assumed economic damage to two or three multinational software is arbitrary, unnecessary and disproportionate.

This situation, which is also has occurred in other media departments of Colonia, Artigas and Cerro Largo, bare a fundamental problem, which is the use of proprietary software by large sectors of the population and the application of a law on anachronistic author .

proprietary software companies use a strategy of lobbying in schools so that not only people from forming in their tools but then also required in the workplace.

Meanwhile, in private orbit, had always existed permissiveness regarding the oversight of the use of proprietary software licenses, since the juiciest morsel it represented the state, license payments of hundreds of million.

The fact undertake now with a series of small media in the interior, for a foul by approximately 70% of citizenship, is a clear form of social control, in which is arbitrarily choose which media monitor.

The other part of the problem is the application of copyright law, which establishes penalties which prejudice the large majority (in this case, the average press and citizens who reads it) does not correspond to the alleged damage to the multinationals.

With under this Act, have already been given above similar situations, such as occurred in 2013 with breaking and local photocopying near the Faculty of Law. In that case, following a complaint from a publisher, thousands of students left without study materials as photocopies are the only means of access to the onerous literature required in various undergraduate programs.

A law causes these damages to citizenship, assuming damage to a few private powerful, needs to be reformed. Among other things, it is necessary to draw their processes of criminal orbit and implement exceptions for educational fields.

To attack a problem as the use of proprietary software in society, is not sufficient to test a single answer. Since the Parliament and State initiatives have been launched, but much remains to advance the matter. Act of Free Software, which drives its use in education and the state was approved in 2013.

This, plus the savings in licensing, cause the development of national capacities in the field and mitigate Gradually needs the same state imposed using proprietary software, its suppliers (including printers). Also, Antel has organized for several years the International Conferences of Free Software.

The challenges that arise in the future commit to different actors. At policy level, it is important to encourage support from the Ministry of Industry to every productive enterprise that wants to migrate to free software, tax exemptions, advice on the process, among other assistance. Should also be taken to ensure full compliance with the law of free software.

At the legislative level, it is important to promote changes in the law of copyright, to find a fairer balance between rights holders, whether software owners, publishers, etc., and those who use cultural and scientific assets.

Finally, the free software community must live up to the occasion when situations arise such as those affected the weekly, either from the dissemination of these problems, suggesting alternatives and technical assistance within the extent possible.

IDC report concluded that unlicensed software and malware … – ebizLatam PointCast

A new report commissioned by BSA | The Software Alliance confirms the link between unlicensed software and malware on personal computers. The analysis, conducted by IDC found that the higher the rate of unlicensed software in a country, the greater the amount of malware in general found on computers in the country. The involvement of governments, companies and end users is clear:. The removal of unlicensed software on their networks could help reduce the risk of cyber security incidents

infections malware can cause significant damage, and organizations are struggling with the best way to protect , “said Jodie Kelley, Senior Vice President and General Counsel of BSA. “ This analysis shows that the link between the use of unlicensed software and malware is real, meaning that a good software management is an essential first step in cybersecurity risk reduction “.

The statistical analysis compared the rates of unlicensed software installed on computers in 81 countries with a measure of detections of malware on computers tracked by a member of BSA, Microsoft company. It argues that there is a strong positive correlation (r = 0.79) between the indices of unlicensed software and malware incidents. Further analysis indicates that the rate of unlicensed software in a country is a strong predictor of malware detections in the country. In Argentina, the encounter rate of malware is 25%.

The report is based on BSA insignia study that examines the global rates of use of unlicensed software. In 2014, the Global Survey on Software BSA reported that 69% of software installed in Argentina during the previous year was not licensed, compared with 43% globally. It also found that the main reason given by users worldwide, not using unlicensed software is to avoid security threats due to malware. The risks associated with unlicensed software, 64% of users worldwide cited unauthorized access by hackers as a major concern, and 59% cited loss of data access.

BSA recommends that organizations implement internal controls and management practices of software assets that comply with ISO, in order to reduce exposure to cyber threats to ensure that all software installed on their systems count on licenses corresponding.

The use of illegal software, results in the possibility of losing computer data and suffer attacks from hackers. In research conducted concluded that organizations experience related incidents malware every 3 minutes , “said Montserrat Duran, Senior Director of Legal Affairs for Latin America BSA | The Software Alliance. “ malware problems relating to the software without a license, in 2014, had a cost to organizations about 500 billion “.

Abusive extension in ChileCompra agreement for development of … – Ciper

In 2011, ChileCompra did the bidding of a framework for software development and maintenance agreement. The idea of a framework convention is to simplify the hiring process these services, given how complex the current procurement system ChileCompra. The selected companies are listed on a “catalog”, where utilities choose to hire.

The bidding in this case were particularly draconian and allowed postulate only 61 companies and ultimately awarded only 51. My company made the effort to apply and despite my previous experience in Public Procurement, the complexity of these rules required a lot of time, we had not at that minute. Ton print PDF and leave it there.

Among its provisions, the agreement created a playpen for 36 months only these companies could provide the service in the framework agreement. Reasoning about the deadline so extensive, we see no issue and we think it is also undemocratic. We believe that framework agreements should be tendered annually or allow continuous entry of new participants. A concern is not seen by encouraging SMEs as suppliers of the State, as the system is complex and a newly created company must wait at least three years to come.

Our company provided services to some government departments, we lost customers to remain outside the new framework agreement. We place our hopes in waiting three years and enroll in February 2014, the date of expiration of the agreement. Great was our surprise to see that they had used an extension mechanism, which was curiously at the bases, so that the agreement continue for another year. Someone does not stick and simply were dozens, if not hundreds of companies out for another year.

Resigned as good Chilean, and unclaimed this time decided to wait the year, with sign up now March 2015. But we are again seeing that, in an extraordinary situation is further extended for the second time this agreement until December 18, 2015. That is because you have to think in 2016.

A detail absurd is that the document cited as an argument for extending the compliance that give the companies currently usufruct of this agreement: “That none of foreclosed providers currently operating in the electronic catalog of the agreement referred frame, expressed his desire not accept Ia extension with all applicable conditions currently published in the electronic catalog, meaning extended the CONVENTlON framework on all grantees Catalogue “(see document).

This seems like a joke, it is obvious that these companies agree that the agreement continues for much longer. Only during 2014, transactions linked to this framework agreement reached US $ 37 million. In the end, the extension injured are small businesses like mine.

If ChileCompra decided to make a disclaimer for this claim, I have no doubt that it will be called within the legal framework. The problem is that this framework closes the door to SMEs as mine, instead of opening them.

On Thursday, some investors may have felt disappointed that the increases did not reach farther, and shares fell 2.5 % to US $ 195.65. It was however 3.7% higher than before Musk said via Twitter on Sunday that an update “will end the anxiety of autonomy”, the fear that an electric car losing its charge and let stranded motorists.

Using the car’s computer to help drivers to follow-up is actually a very basic concept, said Karl Brauer, an analyst at Kelley Blue Book.

“Add sites load the navigation system of a vehicle and travel planning is an excellent feature, but at the same time is neither new nor innovative “he said in a statement via email. “The Nissan Leaf offered this feature when it was introduced in 2010, and almost all electric cars offer it today.”

Increase regularly the capabilities of their cars is part of the culture of Tesla’s CV technology to industry, Musk said Thursday.

“Tesla is primarily a software company in Silicon Valley,” he said. “Everyone assumes it as normal that the phone and the laptop will continue to improve, and that’s the approach we have taken with the Model S. is a fundamental paradigm shift on how cars have been made earlier, when they were very static and software was really very delayed. “
