As part of the SME Week promoted by the Government, they were invited to a forum organized by Microsoft Chile, ACTI, Digital Country and PDI, to discuss the reality of cyber attacks within small and medium enterprises (SMEs). They, according to data provided by Microsoft, between 2013 and 2014 had an increase of attacks in more than 60% by cybercriminals.
According to the conclusions of the forum, made by companies and entities invited not of those most responsible for cyber attacks is the use of illegal software or pirated, because along with the installation of these programs are malwares added to the devices that their owners do not even know how long it took before they find out.
The risks of such programs are primarily: theft of sensitive information such as bank details and all that is of value to the victim. In this regard, SMEs play a leading role, because according to figures from Verizon, in the world every 1.5 seconds a business is attacked, and a frequent target are the smaller companies.
Microsoft blames the illegal software as the main culprit of cyber attacks.
Chile front illegal software
The country is one of the main targets for phishing attacks in Latin America, with over a thousand attacks, surpassed only by Brazil, with more than 3000 attacks every day They are adding new threats. In that sense, the tools with which account for criminal prosecution must be constantly updated and therefore players in the software industry made a call to update existing legislation on cybercrime, which dates from 1993.
Finally, under this same reason, the Chilean government announced in this forum by the Secretary of Economy, Katia Trusich that in April this year an interministerial committee was implemented to raise standards in the fight against cybercrime and support SMEs in digital economy.
