Elon Musk announced that the Model S and Model X will receive a software update that will allow them to have an autopilot system, among other innovations, from this as Thursday.
How long should (in time) one car? 10 years? fifteen? How is it possible that a vehicle may have a life of, say, 15 years without appearing * old? In Tesla they are clear: with updates via OTA that just giving a sedan with three years, a new life. Thursday will reach the seventh version of the operating system that governs the Model S, and will do with developments that are only present in other manufacturers when they teach their prototypes.
Elon Musk announced that this Thursday the Model S and Model X will receive a software upgrade that will allow them to have the longed autopilot to hold the wheel and let the car drive . With this version of the operating system allows the car can, thanks to the active control speed and large set of car sensors, maintain speed, safety distance and do not exceed the limits of the rails.
Version 7.0 does not release the Autopilot program completely, but it is a step giant.
With a simple software update, the sensors used our car for some function, come alive and now allow the driver to release the steering wheel, parking only , warn of smaller objects in the blind spot, widgets on the screen … For the moment this software update will arrive in the North American versions of the Model S and Model X, but hopefully soon come to other countries.
Just I’ve seen and tested a similar system in production models like the Mondeo we tested a few months ago or the S-MAX we’ve had a couple of weeks ago and that we will teach the test in a few days, and system maintenance on the rail and intelligent speed control. Few manufacturers have something similar to what will production Tesla Thursday, but some brands have for years models with similar but more limited functions.
