Center for Scientific Research and Technology (Cicytex) has created a platform that can be used by milk banks and hospitals to improve the management of donated breast milk and control in conservation and food safety.
This is a software application developed under the project MITTIC (modernization and technological innovation with ICT based on strategic and traditional sectors), funded by Cross-Border Cooperation Operational Programme Spain – Portugal 2007 – 2013, open source for use in milk banks outside hospitals, such as the Human Milk Bank (HMB) of Extremadura.
In this way, the platform designed by Cicytex allows communication between milk banks that manage and process the milk from donor mothers and hospitals or health centers where it is administered.
The aim is to have a common application for hospitals and for Human Milk Bank of SES , which allows to perform a controlled traceability from the milk arrives to the bank, where it is labeled with the corresponding code, until it is dispensed and supplied to neonate admitted to specific hospital.
This, says the Board of Extremadura in a press release, is gives a solution to monitor the traceability of bottles from leaving the Milk Bank until reaching the hospital.
The platform “facilitate communication between the Bank and hospitals because it has a tool for making and responding to requests for bottles “. In the computer application have collaborated on Milk Bank of the Extremadura Health Service and the University of Évora (Portugal)
