Hermosillo (Editorial) .- After 24 hours of intense work, to innovate in education and accountability through the use of new technologies, college students with skills development software successfully culminated the first “hackathon” EduCode 2016, organized by the Ministry of Education and Culture.
The head of the SEC, Ernesto de Lucas Hopkins, congratulated and thanked the young people for working in a coordinated way in creating innovative applications that will be used to improve the education system and strengthening transparency in government .
In the Hackathon 2016, which is made up of the words Hacker (computer programmer) and Marathon participated 16 teams from the University of Sonora, the Technological Institute of Hermosillo Technological University of Hermosillo, State University of Sonora, Technological University of South Sonora, the Technological Institute of the Yaqui Valley and the Higher Technological Institute of Cananea.
The theme for the project was “Innovation in Education” and, on instructions from the Secretary, the issue of “transparency and accountability” was added. At the end of 24 hours of programming, each team was called at random to present its proposal.
The 16 teams participated in the issue of education and five teams also made additionally on the issue of transparency. Each had five minutes to present and explain their proposal to the jury, composed of representatives of major software development companies in the region.
After a session of questions and answers, the jury selected the best teams in each subject, who were recognized by the authorities and electronic tablets.
The Secretary of Education and Culture said that applications created will be used to strengthen the academic education of students with disabilities, increase student achievement in general in the areas of Spanish and mathematics, and regain the trust of citizens to provide a tool to learn about accountability in public service.
