Microsoft will release SQL Server software for Linux – Technology … – FORTUNE

MEXICO CITY (CNNExpansión) – Microsoft announced Monday that SQL Server, the database software, now available for the Linux operating system. Previously, this system could only be used only for Windows databases.

“This is a decision of great importance for Microsoft, because it allows you to offer your database to a broader set of customers,” said Al Gillen, group vice president of enterprise infrastructure at in a statement published on his blog.

The technology firm also announced that the new tool will provide “a platform consistent data with Windows Server and Linux as well as the machines or in the cloud.”

“SQL on Linux provide customers more flexibility in data solution,” he said the company on the new software which will be officially presented Thursday at an event in New York.

The new Windows tool has, according to the document, increased memory support database, analysis mechanisms that allow users to perform analytical and data operations in real time and an architecture that saves data in the cloud and streamline the activities of users.

It is expected that this year the program is available.
