Stephen Hawking is known for his contributions to the theory of general relativity, his discoveries about black holes and also the paralysis it forced to communicate through a voice synthesizer. This software, developed by Intel with help from the physical, is now available for todos.http: //es.gizmodo.com/stephen-hawkin …
In What is
The tool is called ACAT ( Assistive Tool Context Aware ) and partly based on predictive virtual keyboard system known Swiftkey . Although Hawking testing it takes more than three years, his intention was to make open source and make it available to the more than three million people suffering from serious malfunctions in their motor skills, as ALS patients.
ACAT integrates a virtual keyboard with predictive system and speech synthesis. Users can also edit their text, open documents, surf the web and access their email. And it works with peripherals such as infrared cameras, buttons and other sensors.
Why is it important
ACAT is now available for both end users and developers. The installer can be downloaded from Github (works only on Windows), and source code is available via the website of the Technology Center of Intel Open Source.
Intel encourages all interested developers to take advantage of the code (written in C #) to develop new similar tools. The aim is to improve the life of any person with a neuromuscular disease such as Stephen Hawking
