A team of Japanese researchers has developed software for android designed to program robots that monitor and help dementia patients in their daily lives, Japanese media reported Monday.
The application was the winner of the first contest for developers organized by the Japanese company SoftBank phone a few days to start selling between technology developers “Pepper”, the first android able to recognize and interpret the voice, gestures and body language of human beings.
The Project Team Dementia was the winner among more than 100 applicants who participated in the contest held in Tokyo on Sunday.
With the “Pepper” software can maintain simple conversations with dementia patients, urge them to take action as getting or taking your medicines , and even inform the doctor of how many pills have been taken through your internet connection.
The robot can also alert the patient when receiving an email and ask questions such as how old your grandchildren to see if correctly recall details about his family.
The winning team was awarded for his proposal with one million yen (about $ 8,400).
The Japanese company Softbank, which delayed until summer the release of “Pepper” by excess demand for technology developers, will sell 300 units of its popular Android from Friday between developers at a price of 198,000 yen (about $ 1,700).
At this price will be added a monthly fee that will range around 24,600 yen ($ 200) for a three years.
These monthly expenses include a basic fee of 14,800 yen (about $ 125), which will offer cloud services using mobile network giant Japanese phone.
